Unpublished manuscripts, notes and biographical material. The core comprises 23 unpublished manuscripts by Lanman, including his "A Family Monologue", "Artistic Recollections", "Literary Recollections", "Newspaper Recollections", and "Recollections of New York". Also included are Lanman's essays on New York artists and political figures such as John James Audubon, George Catlin, Frederic E. Church, Thomas Cole, and Asher B. Durand. Additional material generated by E. Maurice Bloch includes transcriptions and annotations of Lanman's letters and writings as well as correspondence with his descendants, and a thorough list of his collection of drawings, paintings, and manuscripts.
